It is with great sadness that the Ayr Adult Soccer League has learned of the passing of our friend and former league referee Tom McKeown on January 28th, 2021. Tom was a passionate supporter of youth and adult soccer in our community and his professionalism and enthusiasm were infectious. He loved to teach the finer points of the game to children and adults alike. He rarely reached for a yellow or red card, even if one may have been deserved. He preferred to remind players to be cautious and to show appropriate sportsmanship. Tom was a great example of determination in the face of personal challenges, as well as dependability and service. Even when conditions were atrocious, with howling wind and rain, Tom could be found on the pitch with a smile on his face. We know that he will continue to smile down on us, but that he has earned his rest and has gone to be with his beloved wife Elizabeth.
We would like to express our sincere condolences to his brother Robert, his son Kevin, an alumnus of the Ayr Adult Soccer League, as well as his grandchildren, Jonathan and Melanie. Thanks for sharing him with us. He will truly be missed in Ayr.
